1445 Wellington Construction Has Begun (north east corner of Wellington and Island Park)

As you may have already noticed, the construction for 1445 Wellington St. West began this week.

Although a pre-construction meeting is being planned by Jeff Leiper's office, unfortunately, Mizhari is moving ahead before this pre-construction meeting can take place. Here is the initial construction schedule:

Timeline:
Week of October 21, 2019:
October 21 – Fast Fence Around 1445 Wellington installed by EOD
October 22 – 1445 Demolition Begins
October 25 – 1445 Demolition Tentative Completion
October 25 – Backfill Demolition
Week of October 28, 2019:
October 30 – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
October 31 – Bell will begin to remove poles at North-side of site (behind Sales Center)
October 31 – Disconnects scheduled for 1451 Wellington
November 1 – Mobilization of Drill Rig
Week of November 4, 2019:
November 4 – Mobilization for Demolition of 1451 Wellington

Sadly, the parklette is being impacted by the construction. Mizhari decided that in order for them to build this project, they need to stage in the parklette, which will require the trees to be cut down. Clearly, the WVCA is not happy with this decision. The alternative option would have seen them stage on the Wellington West sidewalk and part of the road. Obviously, this is not ideal as well and would greatly impact the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Mizrahi is paying the City for the tree loss and new trees will be planted in the parklette when that is being developed.

Sharing Info: FCA Event- A new Official Plan for Ottawa- Sat. Oct. 26

The WVCA would like to pass along the following information about an upcoming event:

The Federation of Citizen's Associations of Ottawa is hosting a workshop on Saturday, October 26 titled, “A new Official Plan for Ottawa – Launching Community Discussion”. The workshop is open to all (although it would be helpful if attendees could register in advance).

There are two objectives for the workshop. One is to stimulate discussion among community groups about the new Official Plan project. The other is to encourage community representatives to organize similar discussions in their respective communities.

A poster publicizing the workshop is found at  http://fca-fac.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/191026wp.pdf  (see image below). Participants are encouraged to look at the city’s documents entitled “Five big moves” which will serve as basis for discussion. A draft agenda for the workshop is found at http://fca-fac.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/191026wa.pdf

Following the FCA-FAC event, an optional discussion from 1200 to 1330 about climate action, featuring a light lunch, has been organized by Greenspace Alliance for Canada’ Capital and by Ecology Ottawa. Detail is included in the draft agenda document.

Rental Accommodations Survey- Phase 3- Deadline: October 18th

If you haven't gone to Engage Ottawa yet we suggest now would be a good time to check it out. https://engage.ottawa.ca/

Engage Ottawa is the City of Ottawa's new method to consult with residents on numerous topics at their convenience. Residents can also follow the progression of consultations, including The New Official Plan and the Recreation Facility Infrastructure Standards and Strategy, as they move through various stages.

Right now, you have until Friday, October 18th to complete a survey for Phase 3 of the Rental Accommodations Survey.

This survey seeks input from residents regarding rental accommodations including short-term rentals as the City of Ottawa is "considering new rules to address municipal and community concerns regarding rental accommodations".

Make sure you register or log on to provide your feedback before the 18th.
