Spring Cleaning the Capital

Event Date: April 30, 2011

Event Time: 9 am to 2 pm

Location: Parkdale Market

As part of the City of Ottawa's "Spring Cleaning the Capital" campaign, Wellington West BIA and our community partners, Hintonburg Community Association, Hintonburg Economic Development Committee and Wellington Village Community Association, are getting ready to get-down and clean-up our neighbourhoods!

On Saturday, April 30th, we need everyone's help to clean our parks and streets. At 9 am we will be handing out supplies - craft bags and graffiti removal kits - to participants at Parkdale Market on the north side (on Armstrong). People can work together in teams or go directly to their favourite local spots to pick up the trash and debris accumulated over the winter. Please bring your own gardening gloves if you have them.

By 2 pm, the City of Ottawa's garbage trucks will be coming to pick up all our filled bags at the same location at Parkdale Market. When you drop off your bag, look for the WWBIA table and fill out a ballot to win prizes donated by local Wellington West shops and services. We would like thank everyone who participates and takes care of our public space. We couldn't do it without you!

Hope to see you on Sat April 30! If you have any questions, please call 613 875 2242.

Come to Acorn Rescue and Sapling Give Away

A Distinctive Tree Permit has been issued by the City of Ottawa to fell a healthy, magnificent Champlain Oak (see photo of tree at www.champlainoaks.com). The bur oak is at 115 Northwestern Avenue, the subject of a recent development proposal. Last month, Mr. Sam Falsetto (developer) was blocked by the Committee of Adjustment and the community from building a three-and-a-half story double with in-law suites, rooftop lookouts, and multiple back decks at this site. He has now obtained a building permit for a single dwelling, and a tree cutting permit that was issued April 15.

Because our goal has been to save and celebrate the Champlain Oaks, we are suggesting another way for the community to conserve and give new life to the tree we are about to lose.
